“Las Parrandas de Remedios” is a Christmas festival held in the Cuban town of Remedios. The preparations in the weeks leading up to the Parrandas are surrounded in secrecy by the two competing neighbourhoods of the town. The neighbourhoods of San Salvador and El Carmen compete against each other in the form of floats, costumes, electric light parades and fireworks …….lots of fireworks. This Catholic celebration original purpose was to draw the people of the town to the church for mass on Christmas Eve.
The event starts just before dusk at approximately 5pm on Christmas Eve and continues all through the night until dawn of the next morning.
